Franklin County was named for Benjamin Franklin and was formed from Bedford and Henry Counties in 1785. From the guide to the Franklin County (Va.) Land Records, circa 1784-1917, (The Library of Virginia) John Hook, 1745-1808, was a prominent businessman, landowner, and slaveholder in Bedford and Franklin Counties, Virginia.
